Pooling collective intelligence for nexus action
Nexus Action responds to an urgent need for more flexible, inclusive and effective Science-Policy-Society Interfaces.
We complement existing mechanisms by creating dedicated spaces for dialogue and co-creation, ultimately making knowledge actionable and action knowledgeable.
A nexus is a central point where different elements are interconnected.
In this context, nexus action refers to approaches that recognise and work with these interdependencies through systems thinking.
The Science–Policy–Society Interface (SPSI) is the space where evidence, decision-making, and societal needs meet and interact through dialogue and collaboration.

Effective Science-Policy-Society Interfaces can accelerate food systems transformation and address the Feed-Care-Protect* nexus challenges. They catalyse action, policy and investment change, bridging research and action experience on the ground, connecting changemakers across sectors and interacting with local, national, and global scales.
*The Feed-Care-Protect continuum is a framework for exploring interfaces of agriculture, health, and environmental challenges by engaging diverse knowledge systems and stakeholder perspectives to accelerate the sustainability of local and global food systems in our era of polycrises. Nexus Action is a global learning collective and community-owned process convened by an alliance of partners – the Gardeners. Through its practice and thought leadership, this collective of changemakers aims to model more effective, iterative, inclusive, and coordinated Science-Policy-Society Interfaces for food systems transformation.
-
Nexus Action connects, learns, sensemakes and amplifies. We curate “risky-safe spaces” for inclusive dialogue and collaboration, pooling collective intelligence, systematizing it into structured learning, and delivering it to the right people and places through thought leadership.
Our Ambition
Increase the effectiveness of SPSI’s for systemic food systems transformation.
Accelerate local-global-local connections (LoGloLo), learning and alignment across scales and actors.
Involve front-line actors from across the food systems to promote local-global collaboration that translate and connect knowledge and action.
Institutionalise and scale Nexus Action as a durable, global, community-owned platform.
Highlights and Outcomes
The Nexus Action Community
Nexus Action is an open collective owned by its community. The collective is constantly growing and evolving, and currently brings together 480 individuals spanning front-line practitioners, knowledge generators, and policymakers. These 480 individuals do not include participants directly engaged in the Nexus Action Living Labs.
The collective is curated by the Nexus Action Gardening Team, who act with the support of their home institutions but without institutional branding. All Gardeners commit to the principles and values of Nexus Action.
